We know that in 1890 Edward married Elizabeth. This is due to a transcription problem with the index where the last digit could be 6 or an 8. This results in  two possible records for Edward in 1890 marrying Elizabeth in Merthyr Tydfil. We are not 100% yet on whether she was Elizabeth James or Elizabeth Francis . We have swayed toward Elizabeth Francis/Frances but are still not 100% sure.
We have been unable to find the 1891 census for Edward, although we know he had left home and got married by then.
Edward and Elizabeth had a son, William John, in early 1892. Sadly William did not survive and was either stillborn or died shortly after his birth.

John was born in 1897 in Merthyr Tydfil
Son Thomas was born on 16th June 1899 at Merthyr Tydfil. We can see that the name was registered as Terrett rather than Territt which the family is known as today.

We know that life in South Wales was extremely tough at the turn of the century.
The extracts below are taken from http://www.workhouses.org.uk/MerthyrTydfil/ and briefly explain a little about how life was like in Merthyr Tydfil from 1870's to early 1900's.
We believe that below are Edwards records from Brecon prison registry where he served 14 days for a debt in October 1901 and another 14 days in June 1903. It is hard to imagine the consequences in those times of just trying to make ends meet and feeding the family . The equivalent sum with inflation today would have been like owing just over £100 - a sum that no one could imagine serving 2 weeks in prison for nowadays.
1903
The couples daughter Elizabeth was born in late 1903 or early 1904 in Merthyr Tydfil.
Son Richard was born in 1906 in Merthyr Tydfil.
Daughter Bridget Mary was born late in 1908 or early in 1909 in Merthyr Tydfil.
We know that Edward and Elizabeth had two more children between 1890 and 1911 who sadly died between those years but are still yet to detemine who they were.

In 1912, Edward is listed as next of kin along with his wife Elizabeth on son Edwards enlistment papers for the South Wales Borderers. His address is confirmed as still being 25, Yew Street.
Again, In Jan 1915 Edward is listed as next of kin on his son Edwards 2nd enlistment records. HIs address is shown as Duffryn, which is now known as Old Duffryn, in Pentrebach.
By 1939, Edward was living at 1 Poplar Street, Merthyr Tydfil. He is listed as a Colliery Hewer. His birthdate is shown on the registry. As explained previously, we have been unable to find any birth records other than 1861 so he may have not actually been registered or the record could be lost. He was a Colliery Hewer and lived with his wife, Elizabeth and son Richard, 33. Either Elizabeth or Richard is listed as an invalid, but we are unsure which one of them this refers to as Richard was also listed as a colliery hewer - he may have been injured at the pit, perhaps?  There are two more closed entries on the record but we are unsure at this time who they were.
We have only been able to find one death registry entry for Edward Terrett in Wales. This was in 1950 in Merthyr Tydfil. Although his estimated birth year is 1870  we think this could be Edward.
