Thomas Terrett was born in Merthyr Tydfil in the Summer of 1859. He was the son of James and Elizabeth Terrett (aka Territ) who had moved from Ireland to Wales during the Irish Potato Famine some years previously. He had 4 older siblings, Mary, 8, William, 6, James, 4 and John, 2.

In January 1879, Thomas lost his older brother William at the battle of Rourkes Drift . His brother James was also serving but luckily survived the battle.

In 1887 Thomas, 28, married Mary Coleman at Merthyr Tydfil.
Thomas and Mary had their first child, a son, William in 1888.
Their second child Catherine was born in Autumn 1890.
In 1891, Thomas, 32 (There is a transcription error on census), lived at 5, Upper Taff Street, Merthyr. He was a coal miner. He lived with his wife, Mary and children William, 3 and Catherine, just under 1 year old.
Thomas and Mary had another son, James, born in 1893 in Merthyr.
Sadly, daughter Catherine passed away in the Spring of 1896.
Shortly after Catherines death, son Daniel was born in Summer of 1896.
Son, Thomas (Jr) was born in early 1898 in Merthyr Tydfil.
In 1901, Thomas lived with his wife and young family at 11, Vaughan Street, Merthyr Tydfil. He was a coal miner and lived with his wife, Mary and children William, 13, James, 7, Daniel, 5 and Thomas, 3.
Daughter, Elizabeth, was born on 27th November 1902 in Merthyr Tydfil.
On 14th February 1904, Thomas and Mary had twin boys, Richard and John. Tragically, both boys died later that year , Richard on 28th July 1904 and John , shortly after on 13th August 1904. 
Son, David Matthew was born in Spring 1906 in Merthyr Tydfil. 
Thomas and Marys final child, Mary was born in Spring 1910.
In 1911, Thomas, 51, lived at 66, Picton Street, Merthyr Tydfil. He was a mine haulier underground. He lived with his wife , Mary, sons William, 22, who was a butchers carter, James, 18 and Daniel, 15, both Colliery Boys (Hewers),  Thomas, 13, daughter Elizabeth, 7, son David, 5 and daughter Mary, 10 months old.

We believe Mary, Thomas's wife died around 1917.
In 1939 Thomas, now an OAP,  continued to live at his home in Picton Street, Merthyr Tydfil. His daughter Elizabeth, and her husband Frederick Cross also lived at the home. His daughter Mary is also at the home on the registry, We think her surname was Grimes. 
We have evidence from research from a reliable relative who lives in the area that Thomas died on 15th August 1945. He was buried at Cefn Coed, Merthyr Tydfil.
